Hi everyone,

Well peak holiday season has arrived on the Gold Coast.  Schoolies have arrived and will be departing soon and Christmas is almost upon us.  So here is a quick reminder to sort your holiday out now, don’t wait till the last minute.  Remember:

  • When it gets busy, the hotels charge more.  So make your accommodation reservation early.
  • Finalise your surfboard rental today.  We do not put up our prices as it gets busy, but someone else may rent the board you want leaving you with what we have left.
  • Start you surfing fitness campaign today, so you’ll get most benefit from the waves when you arrive.

I look forward to seeing you when you arrive.

New Addition To The GCS Team

Published by Damo under GCS Product Updates

We are over the moon proud to announce the birth of our fist child, Grace Moana Papworth.  We can think of no better way to ensure the provision of our great service to you, for generations to come ha ha.

Grace Moana

A massive thanks to all our clients though, who were so patient with me during the week or two when she was due, and then overdue, and then born.  Your understanding made this special time especially easy to manage when it had the potential to be a “client services nightmare” for us, especially for those expecting delivery of boards.

New Surfboard Storage Service

Published by Damo under GCS Product Updates

Continuing with our innovative solutions for our clients’ needs, Gold Coast Surfboards has just initiated a great new service for surfers who visit the Gold Coast regularly.  Now you can bring up your surfboard and leave it with us when you go home, so your board is waiting here for you when you next return.  There is a nominal rate for this service, but it means you can have your surfboard here on the Gold Coast, ready to surf with, everytime you come here, without the risks and hassles of carrying it around on the airlines.  Here is some more info on this service: Gold Coast Surfboard Storage

High Performance and Specialty Boards Now For Hire

Published by Damo under GCS Product Updates

Hi all, we have just expanded our range of surfboards, due to frequent requests from some of our good clients.  See, we do listen :)

Basically what we have done, is add a High Performance and Specialty Surfboard Rental section to the website.  The boards we rent out of this section are a bit more expensive than our normal range of surfboards, due to the fact that they are very expensive to buy and maintain.  The point of these boards though is to cater to the needs of the more experienced traveling surfers.  If this is you, we know we have neglected you for our first year of operation, but no more.  Now we will gradually build a stock of boards to suit your needs, as well as our “off the rack surfboards” for everyday surfers.

We started with a 2008 model 9 1 McTavish F4 model longboard.  Its already proved to be a popular choice, so if you would like to book this board and think you are up to us, contact us soon.  It books out fast.  Any suggestions on the board that would suit your needs, let us know by email: bookings@goldcoastsurfboards.com.au.  We want to know what are the boards which you want to rent.  We get enough requests, we buy that board.  Its simple

Gold Coast Student Exchange and Surfboard Hire

Today is one of the 3 days in the year that I go and spend a day at Bond University, offering my special semester long surfboard rental deal to travelling students.  Basically what we do is offer traveling students who are studying on the Gold Coast for the semester, the opportunity to rent a board for their entire stay, at a drastically reduced price.

What we have found, is many students come over here and have found it difficult to find a cost effective method of getting a surfboard.  So what they do is go and buy a new or second hand board, costing them between $300 and $1000.  And let me point out, the competition to get a second hand board is tough.  There are 1000 other students just like you trying to grab the dozen or so second hand boards that are available.  Then, at the end of semester, like the other 1000 students, they try and sell the board back to the shop or at cash converters.  Because there are so many students doing the same thing, you would be lucky to get $50 back.  Its a terrible situation, one which many surfshops up here exploit as far as they can and one which we do not think is fair at all.

So what we are happy to do, is offer an alternative.  We visit Bond University every semester at Club Sign on Day and offer our surfboards to rent, for less than the cost of a second hand surfboard purchase.  This we believe, gives our travelling students the best opportunity to have a surfboard for the entire semester, without busting their budget.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention, with these deals we also deliver our boards to you for free and pick them up for free at the end of the semester.  This completely takes the hassle out of finding the board you need.  So don’t go shopping, just contact us and reserve the surfboard you want for your semester.  You will not find an easier and cheaper method of gearing up for the surf  on the Gold Coast, anywhere.  This we guarantee.

School Holidays and the Gold Coast

Published by Damo under General Travel Tips

Just a quick reminder, if you are coming to the Gold Coast during school holidays and want to rent a surfboard, try and book in advance, and get your booking in early.

School holidays are our busiest period and we hate to disappoint people by running out of boards.  Booking in advance will ensure you get the board you want, as by booking in advance, if we do not have “your” board in stock, we have the opportunity to go out and buy it just so it is available for you to hire.  If you leave it to the last minute though, often that opportunity is not available

Surfing Holidays and the Traveling Surfer

Today we consolidated all the needs of the surfing traveller, which were already offered on our website, and put them all on the same page.  You can view it here: Gold Coast Surfing Holidays.

We thought this was a clever move to help the astute traveling surfer who is coming to the Gold Coast primarily to surf.  This after all, is what we are all about!  Now you can find everything you need all from the same page on our website
