shortboards and thrusters (Click through to see what is available)
Shortboards should only be hired if you are a competent surfer. If you are, you will know what type of surfboard you want and will be able to ask us for the specifications you are used to. If you are not an experienced surfer, these surfboards will probably not be suitable for you.
The problem shortboards pose for inexperienced surfers is that they are not buoyant and are very unstable. This means you will have many problems both paddling and balancing on the surfboard. You need a high degree of surfing fitness to be able to effectively ride these boards.
In the end, hiring a shortboard when you are not ready will mean you will catch less waves, stand up less often when you do catch waves, wear yourself out faster and increase your chances of injury. The simple fact is that you will have much more fun surfing a larger surfboard, unless you are experienced with a shortboard already.
minimals for hire (click through to see what is available)
Minimals are our most popular hire surfboard. The reason they are so popular, is that they are more buoyant and therefore, easier to ride than shortboards. They are also not as large as a malibu, so they are easier to cart around, which is ideal if you are not staying on the ocean front. Finally, they are a great progression surfboard to ride following on from a few lessons and competance learned on a softboard. They are perfect for acquiring the skill and fitness you need, prior to riding a shortboard.
Minimals are our most popular surfboard, so if you would like to hire one of these, it pays to get in early to ensure you reserve the surfboard you want.
longboards and malibus (click through to see what is available)
If you are the type of surfer who loves to glide along a wave for what seems like hours, our range of longboards are just the trick for your next Gold Coast vacation. Click through to view our quiver of malibus and choose the one you like the best.
With their extra buoyancy, longboards are also very appropriate boards for beginners to use. The long, wide surface gives you plenty of room to place your feet while water turbulance (compared to smaller boards) is minised. This ensues they are relatively easy to stand up on.
high performance and specialty surfboards (click through to see what is available)
For experienced and hardcore surfers only. We have added these section to our quiver for experienced surfers who want to ride a surfboard that is up to their skill level. These boards cost more to rent so please only consider them if you are experienced and hardcore enough. For most people, our "off the rack" shortboards, minimals and longboards should be sufficient.
learn to surf, beginner and softboard surfboards (click through to see what is available)
If you are just beginning to surf, these surfboards are highly recommended for you. They are surfboards, they have had a few enhancements though that make them perfect to learn on.
The upper part of the surfboard is made from a hardened foam. This has a number of advantages. Firstly, foam is much more buoyant than fibreglass. This means that the boards float better, which means it is much easier to learn on than a fibreglass board which is much more responsive to the movement in the water.
Also, when learning, you are going to fall off, lose control of your surfboard and generally have a real muck around time. It will be a lot of fun. Occasionally though the surfboard will hit things, sometimes it will hit you. The foam is a lot softer than fibreglass, making it harder to damage and less painful for you too.
