Learning to surf is difficult. Learn the best way to learn with this amazing Gold Coast beginner surfers guide.

Getting a Gold Coast surfing lesson is only the start of your surfing journey. Unfortunately, too many surf schools will not give you anything that will help you after your lesson finishes. It is up to you. To learn to surf though, you need some knowledge and some things to focus on. So when getting your lesson, we recommend you:

  • Try to remember a small number of things from your lesson to take into practise
  • Get your instructor to speak to you about how the ocean works, on a practical and safety level
  • Get some local knowledge so you know the best places to learn to surf.

If you are learning on the Gold Coast, all this is covered in the FREE learn to surf guide. You can download your copy from the www.GoldCoastLearnToSurf.com.au website.

So many surf instructors will have you believe that if you go with them, you will learn to surf in a flash. If only it were that easy for the person learning.

Learning to surf is actually much more challenging than this. Before you book your lesson, you must:

  • Understand what makes a good and bad instructor
  • Find the ideal instructor for you
  • Work out what type of class suits you best
  • Understand what you will get out of the lesson

Once you finish your lesson, the learning really starts. To assist your learning you must:

  • Find a good learning beach
  • Find an appropriate surfboard
  • Understand what you need to practise
  • Realise when it is time to get your next lesson

The FREE guide at

Gold Coast Student Exchange and Surfboard Hire

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Today is one of the 3 days in the year that I go and spend a day at Bond University, offering my special semester long surfboard rental deal to travelling students.  Basically what we do is offer traveling students who are studying on the Gold Coast for the semester, the opportunity to rent a board for their entire stay, at a drastically reduced price.

What we have found, is many students come over here and have found it difficult to find a cost effective method of getting a surfboard.  So what they do is go and buy a new or second hand board, costing them between $300 and $1000.  And let me point out, the competition to get a second hand board is tough.  There are 1000 other students just like you trying to grab the dozen or so second hand boards that are available.  Then, at the end of semester, like the other 1000 students, they try and sell the board back to the shop or at cash converters.  Because there are so many students doing the same thing, you would be lucky to get $50 back.  Its a terrible situation, one which many surfshops up here exploit as far as they can and one which we do not think is fair at all.

So what we are happy to do, is offer an alternative.  We visit Bond University every semester at Club Sign on Day and offer our surfboards to rent, for less than the cost of a second hand surfboard purchase.  This we believe, gives our travelling students the best opportunity to have a surfboard for the entire semester, without busting their budget.

Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention, with these deals we also deliver our boards to you for free and pick them up for free at the end of the semester.  This completely takes the hassle out of finding the board you need.  So don’t go shopping, just contact us and reserve the surfboard you want for your semester.  You will not find an easier and cheaper method of gearing up for the surf  on the Gold Coast, anywhere.  This we guarantee.

Gold Coast Car Rental Company Recommendation

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

We’ve decided to stop being lazy when it comes to Car Rentals on the Gold Coast.  We previously had a comparison service, where you could compare prices of the main car rental companies.  Just the big ones.  To replace this though, we actually went out and sussed out quite a number of local providers of car hire services. We interviewed our clients, our friends and recorded our own experiences.  From this work, we have now recommended our pick of the bunch, rather than offering a comparison service.  Find out more here: Car Rentals on the Gold Coast
