Monday, December 22nd, 2008Swell A Bit Low
Friday, December 12th, 2008Well, the swell has dropped off a bit during the last couple of weeks ranging between half and 2 feet, but its been pretty clean. I’ve managed to get out 2 or 3 times and had some fun sessions. Lets hope we get a bit of an increase in swell soon though. We have some info on current conditions at the bottom of the following page: Surf Report
Gold Coast Student Exchange and Surfboard Hire
Friday, September 12th, 2008Today is one of the 3 days in the year that I go and spend a day at Bond University, offering my special semester long surfboard rental deal to travelling students. Basically what we do is offer traveling students who are studying on the Gold Coast for the semester, the opportunity to rent a board for their entire stay, at a drastically reduced price.
What we have found, is many students come over here and have found it difficult to find a cost effective method of getting a surfboard. So what they do is go and buy a new or second hand board, costing them between $300 and $1000. And let me point out, the competition to get a second hand board is tough. There are 1000 other students just like you trying to grab the dozen or so second hand boards that are available. Then, at the end of semester, like the other 1000 students, they try and sell the board back to the shop or at cash converters. Because there are so many students doing the same thing, you would be lucky to get $50 back. Its a terrible situation, one which many surfshops up here exploit as far as they can and one which we do not think is fair at all.
So what we are happy to do, is offer an alternative. We visit Bond University every semester at Club Sign on Day and offer our surfboards to rent, for less than the cost of a second hand surfboard purchase. This we believe, gives our travelling students the best opportunity to have a surfboard for the entire semester, without busting their budget.
Oh yeah, I also forgot to mention, with these deals we also deliver our boards to you for free and pick them up for free at the end of the semester. This completely takes the hassle out of finding the board you need. So don’t go shopping, just contact us and reserve the surfboard you want for your semester. You will not find an easier and cheaper method of gearing up for the surf on the Gold Coast, anywhere. This we guarantee.

New Innovative Surfboard Hire Purchase Service
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008Innovative Gold Coast business, Gold Coast Surfboards (GCS), has just released a new hire purchase service, building on their impressive array of services to the Gold Coast’s surf industry.
“This one is for our locals” said Damian Papworth of GCS, “they have a bit more time up here, so we can be a bit more flexible with the services we offer them”.
The point of GCS’s hire purchase service is that surfers may be in between boards, looking for a more advanced board, or just learning how to surf. This service gives our locals the ability to try a board under a rental arrangement, and then give them the option to purchase it if they are happy with it at the end of the rental period. And the money they paid for the rental, contributes to the purchase of the board, so everyone wins.

Surf Boarding Your Next Flight
Tuesday, March 11th, 2008The following press release was today released to many Australian travel media outlets.
Innovative Gold Coast business Gold Coast Surfboards has recently launched a new concept in surfboard hire, responding to the growing resistance from airlines in checking through surfboards as luggage on flights.
November 6 2007 was an historic day for surfers, as it marked the day that British Airways banned surfboards from all flights due to their “large size and handling complexities”. Since then, many other airlines have taken similar action, banning boards over certain sizes, or making the cost of including them as luggage prohibitive. It is common today that the cost of flying your surfboard to the Gold Coast is more than what you paid for the board.
Gold Coast Surfboards, recognising this trend, have developed their marquee surfboard hire service. You can now hire a surfboard which closely matches the one you ride at home, for your entire holiday. The wide range of surfboards on offer is extensive enough to cater for most surfers’ needs. If however, there is not a surfboard available which matches your board at home, for a small additional fee and 2 weeks notice, Gold Coast Surfboards will find a board that matches your specifications and purchase it so it is available for you to hire.
“It’s about bringing service to surf board hire” says Damian Papworth from Gold Coast Surfboards, “Which is why we also offer a delivery and pick up service for our clients. We just want to make sure that the only thing travelling surfers need to worry about when they get to the Gold Coast, is where they surf today.”.
There are a number of other frustrations travelling surfers face, including
-
• Damage to surfboards which are carried as luggage on airplanes
-
• Hire shops only hiring out poor quality or learner boards
-
• Hire shops only hiring out on a short term basis (hourly or daily)
-
• Hire shops only opening at 9am, when the best surf is finished for the day
- • Hire shops not allowing customers to travel outside the locality of the shop
The Surfboard Hire concept at Gold Coast Surfboards effectively resolves all such frustrations for travelling surfers. “Our clients feel like they have their own surfboard with them for their entire holiday, when they hire one of ours” says Damian Papworth.

The ASP WCT Comes To The Gold Coast
Monday, February 25th, 2008We recently posted an article on our website which is very topical given that the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) has descended to the Gold Coast to kick off the annual World Championship Tour (WCT), as they do every year in February/March…
Every year, come February/March, the first event of the World Championship Tour (WCT) of Surfing Professionals comes to the Gold Coast. Typically it lands somewhere between Snappar Rocks and Kirra, occasionally moving south to Duranbah or north to Burleigh. What an inspiring spectacle for the surfing community here, particularly during those years when the Aussies are defending the men’s, the woman’s or both WCT crowns (such as in 2008 when Mick Fanning was the mens world champion and Stephanie Gilmour the female world champion). Despite this, if you are coming during the competition, we really think you should ensure your trip is the best surfing trip of your life, not just one where you enjoy the WCT spectacle.
