About Gold Coast Surfboards
Our Origins - Way back in 2006 I moved to the Gold Coast. I spent four days here a couple of month prior to moving to get a feel for where I'd like to live. During this time, I tried to rent a surfboard for my trip. I wanted something in the 6'4" - 6'6" range, of a reasonable quality and price; and I wanted a surfboard I could take to the hotel with me so I could go for a surf at the crack of dawn. Guess what, I couldn't find one. None of the shops would let me take a board overnight. They said I had to wait till they opened at 9am, after the best waves had already blown out. Further, all their surfboards were junk and they were expensive. I could not believe it. I was spending $22 a day to rent a brand new car during these four days and $40 a day to rent a junkie piece of epoxy resin you could barely call a surfboard. It was ridiculous, but in the ridiculous great ideas are born.
Surfboard Hire - So when I arrived and settled in, I started Gold Coast Surfboards. The concept was simple, I wanted to offer a surfboard hire alternative to travelers, one which specialised in long term rentals and one which focused on looking after its clients. The principles I put together to achieve this were as follows:

Rental pricing goes in weekly increments. We do not do daily rentals or intra day as all the shops do that anyway. So we have the one price for any number of days in a week. Ie. 1 day gets the same price as 7 days. 8 days gets the same price as 14 days. In this manner we can price our surfboard hire services at rates that offer real value to long term renters and offer an alternative service to what the shops are doing. (Ie. if you want to rent a surfboard for a day, we recommend you do not use us, but visit a shop. You will find a better deal)

The longer you rent, per day, the cheaper it gets.

You keep your surfboard for the entire duration of your holiday. This means you get to surf when the waves are the best which is always first thing in the morning. As you will have your surfboard beside you when you wake up, you can catch your fill of waves while everyone else is waiting for the shops to open.

All our surfboards are proper surfboards and are kept in good condition. We only rent out surfboards we would be happy to surf ourselves. We also keep a full quiver of surfboards which means the chances of you getting a board to match your capabilities is very good.

We offer a range of convenient delivery and pick up services, to and from your place of accommodation. This takes the hassle out of shopping for a surfboard to rent. This means you will have the luxury of just concentrating on the waves.
